My process is intuitive-- I enter into a state of pure creation. Painting in abstraction allows me to gain access to my creative flow. In this condition, time is irrelevant as I tap into my unconscious and translate pure emotion through the language of paint. flow uses an explosive color palette, flowing shapes, texture, and movement to transfer fragments of my soul onto canvas. The feelings presented in this series are sensations evoked by remaining empowered and independent, as a woman, while participating in an intimate relationship with another. 

flow is a flirtation with reality. Although the work is abstract, my interpretations of the human body create the core of each painting. While the eight works are installed as one composition, each canvas can stand alone. The four paintings on the inside of the composition represent my reproductive organs, the immensely powerful parts of the female body that can create life and climax. The four paintings on the exterior of the composition represent the curves of the human form, the parts which permit intimate touch and connection with others. By integrating these physical ideas of the human body, flow celebrates my personal identity and sexuality. 

During my creative process I enter into a trance like state, which guides my paint across the canvas. The warm colored paintings represent transcendental, sexual experiences, while the cool paintings represent self-reflection and self-empowerment. As life is in constant flux, my work expresses that movement and their gestures flow into each other, becoming one connected composition. These places of connection between the paintings and the shift from warm to cool colors parallel the ways in which the emotions of all human beings shift and change throughout each day.

For me, there is no need to present the physical world. Instead, I aim to express the most important aspect of being human: emotion. This work is a manifestation of the flow of life, where everything is connected and in motion. It’s an expression of the continuously changing flow of emotion. Most significantly, flow is my intimate exploration of love, transcendence, and empowerment.
